Lidgard Sails
Lidgard Sails was founded in 1973 and ws led by Jim Lidgard
until his untimely death in 2003.
Jim
was regarded as one of New Zealand's top forward hand sailors
and sail designers with wins in the World 18 Footer championships
and numerous keelboat and dinghy titles.
Jim Lidgard's sail designs have shown their performance
in the full spectrum of the sailing world, from "Windstar"
(440 Ft commercial liner) to silver medalist in the 1992
Olympic Games as supplier for the jibs for both men's and
women's 470 class. This relam also includes super yachts
like "Philanderer" and "Mirabella",
1981-1982 Whitbread maxi "Ceramco New Zealand",
1993-1994 Whitbread winner "New Zealand Endeavour",
Whitbread 60 "Tokio", 1987 America's Cup challenger
"KZ7" skippered by Chris Dickson and 1995 America's
Cup challenger "Tag Heuer" along with countless
sails for IOR and IMS winners.
One outcome of Jim Lidgard's interest in the most advanced
technology, is the world-recognized top performing 3D CAD
SailMakerdesign
program which he developed in 1984. This software is used
today by more than 160 leading designers and sailmaking
groups all around the world, and is continuously developed
by Sails Science Limited
in partnership with Lidgard Sails.
